Wining and Dining
Carolinda Witt is a writer and the author of T5T The Five Tibetan Exercise Rites. She is also a hot-air balloonist and flew Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin jumbo jet-shaped balloon across the country in the Trans-Australia Balloon Race.
Here are her fave spots to land on gorgeous Hamilton Island.
Cafe:
The Toucan Tango Cafe & Bar is centrally located, overlooking spectacular Catseye Beach, and is decorated in the vibrant tropical colours of the island’s natural surroundings. It has a bar, lounge and games area and is a great place to meet people at all times of the day. It opens at 7am – serving a delicious buffet breakfast to set you up for the day – and stays open late for snacks, lunch and dinner. Live entertainment is provided until late, so you can enjoy some late-night jazz or a local band.
Restaurant:
I love dining on the balcony of the Beach House – also at Catseye Beach – sipping fine wine and eating great food. The location is stunning; situated right on the beach, it’s surrounded by turquoise ocean, sparkling white sands and spectacular views of the Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands. The restaurant has been cleverly designed to create the illusion of a traditional timber beach house fanned by ocean breezes. It’s a place to relax, be spoilt and never leave!
Night-Life:
For a casual drink I enjoy overlooking Hamilton Harbour at the Yacht Club Tavern, in Marina Village. Later on, I like to wander over to nearby Bohemes Nightclub & Bar, also in Marina Village, to dance the night away in the split-level nightclub.
